The essential apps

Let's start with some of the most common. These are what we think are the best basic apps that everybody should consider downloading, ranging from better keyboards to improving your camera. It's a great starting place for any Android user.

For example, one of our most essential apps is Swiftkey, a free keyboard app which makes typing just about as simple as it can be, and has great swipe options, predictions, adaptive-learning and more.

Our phones are tiny little media centers where we can watch movies and TV shows and listen to music or podcasts. With all that lovely hardware inside your device, you will want to get the best viewing and listening experience, possible, right?

One of our favorites for playing music is Poweramp. It’s a great way to enjoy your favorite music, with a ton of options and support for almost any type of file. You can’t go wrong with Poweramp.

Best weather and GPS apps

There are plenty of good weather apps available with more functionality, and arguable better accuracy, than can be found in the standard Android app. We've had a look at some of the best, as well as some GPS apps which might help you outdoors.

Yahoo! Weather is one of our favorites at AndroidPIT because it looks great, it’s simple to use, and it presents all of the information you require at a glance. It also comes with a nice widget too.
