Install Paranoid Android 5.0 Alpha 1 ROM for Google Nexus 5

Flash Paranoid Android 5.0 Alpha 1 ROM

The Google Nexus 5 smartphone has received its first build based on Lollipop OS from Paranoid Android team. Read the info below in order to learn how to successfully flash this new custom ROM for your device.

The PA 5.0 Alpha 1 custom ROM is based on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop AOSP and on the CM 12 custom ROM. Besides all the stock and CM features you will also get tons of new features designed by the Paranoid Android team.

Read the tutorial below in order to learn how to prepare the phone for the installation process:
  • use this post only with the Nexus 5 device.
    – do not use this post on any other Android devices.
  • your phone has to be rooted and running the latest CWM or TWRP Custom Recovery image.
    – if the custom recovery is not updated to its latest version, then it won’t support any new Android 5.x Lollipop custom ROMs.
  • in the ‘how-to’ part of this post you will find two extra preparation steps: the NANDROID Backup and the Factory Reset.
    – do not skip those steps when you reach them in the tutorial.
    – the ‘NANDROID Backup’ process creates a full backup for your device, one that can be used to repair your device in case the new PA ROM doesn’t boot successfully.
    – NANDROID Backup saves the entire OS and the data that was created by the previous ROM.
    – the ‘factory reset’ process has to be applied, so that you will get rid of all the files that were installed by the previous ROM.
    – ‘factory reset’ doesn’t wipe any data from the internal storage.
  • in case you need to save data from installed applications, sms text messages or any other types of files, then you can use the Helium app for Android.
    – sync Contacts info with your default Gmail account.
  • the battery charge level of your device has to  be over 40%, so that the Nexus 5 won’t power off during the installation process.
  • this post is for advanced users, do not blame us in case you end up losing any data nor in case you brick the phone.
  • read the whole guide and don’t skip any steps.
This Alpha 1 build is only a ‘test build’ of PA 5.0 and you should only use it for testing purposes. Usually, these test builds are buggy and not all Lollipop functions and features are fully working. The PA 5.0 Stable Lollipop builds will be released some time in the future.

Now that you’ve read all of the above you can continue to the next part of this post.
